Adele Laurie Blue Adkins is a recipient of 15 Grammys and an Oscar. Her first two albums, 19 and 21, earned her critical praise and a level of commercial success unsurpassed among her peers. Her work on her ‘comeback’ album, 25, won her five Grammys in 2017 in the categories of album, record, and song of the year.

She got her inspiration for her music career from the songs of  Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald when she was 15.

Adele attended BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. There, she cut a three-track demo for a class project that was eventually posted on her MySpace page. This demo earned her a record deal with XL Recordings in 2006 when they heard the tracks.

Adele has recorded three studio albums since the beginning of her career in 2008: 19, 21, and 25.

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins’ Early Life

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born on 5 May 1988 in Tottenham, London. Her mother was English, Penny Adkins, and his father was a Welsh father, Marc Evans. Evans left when Adele was 2, thus transferring the burden of raising the little girl to the mother. When Adele was 9, her mother worked as a furniture maker and an adult-learning activities organizer, this made them relocate to Brighton. Her mother moved back to London and 1999 and this became the theme of her first song “Hometown Glory.”

Adele spent most of her youth in Brockwell Park where she would play guitar and sing to friends, the memory she later recalled in her 2015 song “Million Years Ago.”  Adele attended the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology in Croydon and graduated in May 2006.

Personal Life

In 2011, Adele started a relationship with charity entrepreneur Simon Konecki with whom she has a son, Angelo. Adele and Konecki got married in 2018 and separated the same year.  During this time, Adele became a stay-at-home mother.

On 13 September 2019, Adele filed for divorce from Konecki in the US. Their divorce was finalized on 4 March 2021. Shortly after her divorce from Konecki, Adele entered a relationship with American sports agent Rich Paul in 2021.

Adele also aligns with the Labour Party politically. She is a natural supporter of Tottenham Football Club. The reason is not unconnected to the fact that she was born in the North London district of Tottenham. Adele is a successful musician and she has amassed her fortunes from it. n 2017, she was worth £125 million and ranked the richest musician under age 30 in the UK and Ireland on the Sunday Times Rich List. She was ranked the 19th richest musician overall. On the 2019 list, she was valued at £150 million as the 22nd richest musician in the UK

Career

Adele has had a sterling music career. Her albums are released and named to reflect the age most (if not all) the songs were written and composed. Thus, her career so far can be discussed under the headings: 19, 21, and 25.

Album 19

Album 19 marked the beginning of Adele’s career. Adele began her career with XL Recordings in September 2006 where she later met producer Jim Abbiss, who produced both the majority of her debut album, 19, and tracks on 21.

Adele’s two most popular songs in the album are the “Hometown Glory”, written when she was 16, and released in October 2007, and “Chasing Pavements” in 2008. Album 19 has earned her several nominations and awards at Grammy in different categories including Best New Artist, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.

Adele performed “Chasing Pavements” and “Cold Shoulder,” on the 18 October 2008 episode of NBC’s Saturday Night Live. The following day, 19 topped the iTunes charts and ranked at number five on Amazon.com while “Chasing Pavements” rose into the top 25. 19 was certified gold in early 2009, by the RIAA and had sold 2.2 million copies worldwide.

Album 21

Adele’s second album, 21 was released on 24 January 2011 in the UK and 22 February in the US. Again, this album did not disappoint. The album sold 352,000 copies within its first week. That’s incredibly amazing!

The two hit songs on the album are “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone Like You.” These singles were in the top 5 of the UK singles chart for weeks, making Adele the first living artist to have two songs in the UK top 5 hits on both the Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously since the Beatles in 1964.

Album 21 broke several sales and performance records. It sold over 3.4 million copies in the UK and became the biggest-selling album of the 21st century. Adele became the first artist ever to sell three million albums in the UK in one calendar year. Moreover, 21 had the most weeks on the Billboard 200 chart of any album by a female artist. She released Live at the Royal Albert Hall in 2011 following microsurgery on her vocal cord. Adele is the first artist to have the year’s number-one album (21), number-one single (“Rolling in the Deep”), and number-one music video (Live at the Royal Albert Hall).

Album 21 has earned Adele several nominations and awards in different categories. Notably, she won all six categories at the 2012 Grammy Awards in February, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year. She became the second female artist in Grammy history, after Beyoncé, to win that many awards in a single night.

Album 21 has sold over 50 million copies worldwide by the end of 2014, earning Adele a place as the only artist or band in the last decade in the US to earn an RIAA diamond certification for a one-disc album in less than two years.
